Burton SupermodelSnowboarding, up until about a decade or so ago, seemed to be a more male-dominated sport mainly because people felt women could not handle the pain, difficulty in learning the skill set for the sport and the pressures that go along with such an adventurous sport. And then there is the aggressiveness needed to handle themselves against the competition, but in the past several years, women have been proving themselves on the slopes, the halfpipes and in the parks as great snowboarders to win gold medals and championships.

Many snowboard manufacturers have taken notice of the numerous women snowboarders and began designing, developing and building snowboards specifically for a woman’s unique needs.  One of these manufacturing companies is the Burton Snowboarding Company whose snowboards are very popular with women snowboarders.

Various women have proclaimed that the Burton Feelgood snowboard handles well at all speeds and is extremely light and flexible which are what a woman wants in a great snowboard. Countless women snowboarders cannot believe the difference they feel and see in their performance after having used men’s snowboards for years.

Burton Snowboards features a great product line for women’s snowboarders including the Burton Supermodel. Shayboarder.com, featuring Shannon, a self proclaimed snowboarding guru, writer and curvy girl, tested the Burton Supermodel and loved it.  Admitting that she was well over the weight limit for this size snowboard, she still believed it handled very well and found the “flex stiffer longitudinally than torsionally”.

Shay believes women’s boards were meant for carving and the Burton Supermodel is really for a woman freerider, holding an edge on icy spots and groomers, it could hold an arc in each turn and make the lines in the snow with it.

Burton Snowboards manufactures over 15 different styles of snowboards specifically designed for women to be flexible, shorter and easier to handle so that they can compete with their male counterparts not only in competition but just on a sunny day on the powders of their favorite mountaintop.
