Some eco-friendly new parents believe the best cloth diapers are the newer brands that are touted as all-in-one style cloth diapers in which they have a plastic outer shell that holds messes and moisture in just like a disposable diaper so there is less leakage and the parents or person holding the child does not get themselves wet or messy.
The older cloth diapers required parents to purchase diaper accessories such as diaper pins or large safety pins in order to keep the cloth diapers safely attached to the child; in addition to purchasing plastic or ‘rubber’ pants that go over the cloth diapers to hold in moisture and messes and make sure everything outside of the diaper stays dry. Whichever style diaper a parent chooses to use, the diapers still needs to be rinsed out in the toilet before placing in the hamper or in the washing machine and this is where a lot of parents decide it is too much work and go back to the disposable diapers.
Disposable diapers are expensive to use every month; however they are convenient and they take up an enormous amount of space in landfills and stay there for many, many years because they do not decompose as quickly as other items.
Cloth diapers are one of the natural baby products parents could use in order to help save energy and money even though it takes a little more of both of these things to run a washing machine and less to simply throw a disposable diaper in the trash.
A family could also grow their own vegetable garden in order to make their own baby food for a natural baby product so they know what is going into their baby’s food, making sure they’re not all of the preservatives and additives that are in some baby foods. Additionally, growing a vegetable garden with older children brings the entire family closer together and teaches them the importance of being self-sufficient and how much fun it can be to work the earth and have something good to eat grow out of it.
