Android application development companiesAndroid application development companies have been busy creating new applications such as the smart phones main feature – Google Maps Navigation, the free and long-awaited, turn-by-turn, real time nav system.

Synchronization with multiple e-mail accounts, calendars and contact lists, with messages and appointments from multiple sources combined in a single list as in the PALM Pre’s WebOS are a few of the new features included on the new Verizon Droid smart phone which made its premiere on November 6, 2009.

An Android apps developer knows of the Android Market, an online bazaar featuring downloadable apps for use on the Android phones, which continues to be one of the platforms more attractive features. The Android Market, sometimes known as the Droid Store, has just over 10,000 apps which are one tenth the number available at their competition, the Apple iPhone App Store, that stated in October, has reached 100,000 apps. But what is important is that the smart phone customers can get what they want.  With the Android, if you can’t get what you want, chances are you’ll get what you need. Their app store is stocked far better than Blackberry, Windows Mobile or the Palm Pre equivalents.

As far as the payment system for the Android Market, Google Checkout comes close to rivaling Apple in efficiency.  Android developers in conjunction with Verizon are working on plans to add its own store, with purchases to be paid for on your phone bill, but they are vague on the timing of when this will debut.

Droids hardware is equally as impressive as its software. The handset is approximately the same width and length as the Apple iPhone however it is a bit thicker to allow for a pullout keyboard and a removable battery.  There is an on and off switch and a volume control rocker, other than that there are no physical buttons or switches.

Unlike with the Apple iPhone, the Verizon Droid smart phone allows an individual to have more than one app open at one time, however if an app is left running for a long period of time without being used, it will run the battery down rather quickly.

Overall the Verizon Droid smart phone has been getting rave reviews from many new users it’s picked up along the way.
