solar signsSolar signs increase the awareness of dangerous or hazardous conditions in many of the roadways in addition to helping alert distracted drivers to these and other conditions by flashing lights on solar traffic signs.

With many communities having to cut costs everywhere they can, some cities and municipalities are purchasing solar powered signs in order to save money and conserve energy at the same time. Solar powered signs help cities save on their electric bills because there is no need for long extension cords running from a building’s power source or costly generators to power the LED lights located on the solar powered signs. There are several solar panels which collect the sun’s rays which generate power to three or four LED lights that flash on and off helping to alert drivers to whatever the sign is stating.

Solar powered signs could be any type of traffic sign such as solar powered stop signs, directional signs, speed signs, emergency entrance signs, railroad crossing signs, highway work zone signs or railroad crossing signs among many others. All the solar powered street and traffic signs are considered the same as the original ones, only these are attached to a thicker pole with a small collection plate of solar panels near the top to harness the sun’s ultraviolet rays into energy for the flashing LED lights.

Solar powered signs with the flashing LED lights help to alert drivers of upcoming turns, hazards and other possible dangers, such as curves or emergency vehicles entering the roadway, so that they remain safe. Even on cloudy or overcast days in which the sun is not shining, the solar powered traffic signs will still perform beautifully without having to be within direct sunlight because they take their energy from the ultraviolet rays which are always penetrating through the cloud cover. Although it is not always possible due to tree growth, it is better to have the signs ‘planted’ where they can receive direct sunlight; however these signs will work under the shade of a tree branch.
